Our goal is to ship within 48 hours (2 business days). We ship throughout the continental United States using UPS GROUND SERVICE. UPS Express Service is available for Smithfield and Peanut Shop products that include shipping and must be selected on the product page. Express Delivery is required for shipping Smithfield and the Peanut Shop products to Alaska and Hawaii. We ship Monday - Friday. Expedited shipping only speeds up shipping time after a package is shipped out. Although our goal is to ship within 48 hours (2 business days), during holidays, it may take up to 3 - 4 business days before an order is shipped. UPS delivers Monday - Friday. Saturday delivery is not available. Perishable items from Smithfield or The Peanut Shop are only shipped on Mon. and Tues. Please remember a street address is required for delivery.
Shipping charges are calculated and are based on the weight of your purchase and shipping destination. We just pass along the actual shipping and a minimal handling fee. Some items are shipped directly from our suppliers. We monitor these orders to ensure that they have been sent to you in a timely manner. Should you ever have any questions contact customerservice@thevirginiamarketplace.com. The various shipping cost options can be calculated and the shipping costs based on your requested option will be displayed in the shopping cart. This will give you the shipping costs without obligation to purchase. We cannot be responsible for shipping delays caused by weather or incorrect addresses. Please double check your shipping addresses.
Please be certain of your address before ordering! Incorrect addresses will cause a delay in delivery and will result in a $10.00 fee for the correction, which will appear on your credit card statement as a separate charge. Make sure you include a correct telephone number and apartment or suite numbers if applicable.
If a gift is returned to us because of an address problem, we will reship the gift to you or a corrected recipient address. You will be charged for the additional shipping fees.
If Express Shipping is selected for 1 or 2 day delivery zones, we will expediate processing of your order getting out but cannot shorten the number of transit days. Please see the UPS Shipping Maps below to determine the number of transit days for your order.
HOW TO TRACK YOUR ORDER
Orders shipped via UPS can be tracked online at www.ups.com using the tracking number we provide you when your order ships.
LOCAL PICKUP
If you live in the Charlottesville, VA area call 978-7459 for local pickup of in-stock orders over $25.00. Local pickup is not available for Smithfield and The Peanut Shop items when price includes shipping. It is also not available for Rowena's gourmet cakes that are shipped directly from the vendor.
When you call we will give you a free shipping code you can use to order in-stock items and arrange a pickup time. Large orders may qualify for free delivery. If you wish, we can place the order for you.
MULTIPLE SHIPPING ADDRESSES
Register for one time entry of your personal information. Place a separate order for each shipping destination. For each order, select "change" next to shipping address. You can then select a shipping from your address book or choose "new shipping address" to add a new address. These shipping addresses are stored in your personal address book and can be selected from it for quick ordering in the future. Please note, your billing address is the address where your credit card statement is sent.
INDIVIDUAL VENDOR SHIPPING POLICIES
All SMITHFIELD and THE PEANUT SHOP (only products that include shipping) products are shipped UPS STANDARD unless perishable shipping requirements apply and the UPS shipping costs are included in the price. Allow for 2-3 buisness days for processing. Please allow 5-10 business days for standard delivery.
Express shipping rates are in addition to the Standard Ground Rate shipping and your order will arrive 2-3 business days after shipment.
Perishable items are shipped UPS on Monday and Tuesday.
These must be refrigerated or frozen upon reciept. We will not be responsible for loss or spoilage of items shipped to improper addresses or where no one is available to accept delivery.
Summer Shipping Policy
During the heat of the summer months, some nonperishable products are shipped so as not to sit in warehouses over the weekend to insure the best quality. Shipments to western states that are in the UPS 5 day delivery zone will require EXPRESS DELIVERY to ensure maximum quality. A special note on packing perishable items - Very perishable items, such as smoked hams and turkeys, will be shipped frozen, in sturdy and reusaable styrofoam coolers to keep items cold. Multiple shipping items to one address may be shipped in a single container. Perishables are only shipped on Monday and Tuesday. All ROWENA'S cakes will be shipped within 2-3 business days from receipt of order and are packaged in decorative "spotted" shipping boxes. Please note, more processing time is needed during busy holiday seasons. See Rowena's UPS Ground Shipping Map for information on shipping transit time. Only UPS Ground shipping is available for Rowena's products and is included in the price. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii is not available.

Holiday and Event Ordering & Shipping
Delicious hams, gourmet chocolates, and distinctive Southern foods are the perfect way to celebrate special events, like graduations, and to honor a special person on their special day, like Dad on Fathers Day, or just to have a gathering of friends and family.
To make sure your order arrives in time for the special day, please make sure you order early enough and consider the following information:
- Please understand that orders placed today are shipped after verifying credit cards, fulfilling the orders, packing and shipping, etc. Please keep these processing requirements in mind when choosing your preferred arrival date and shipping method as part of your shopping session.
- Please allow 5-10 working days (M-F) for delivery of NON-PERISHABLE items via UPS Standard Service. Smithfield's PERISHABLE items are shipped on Monday and Tuesday only, so they are delivered to you by Friday and don't sit in UPS warehouses over the weekend.
